Quicklink

Quicklink is a lightweight JavaScript library developed by Google Chrome Labs that prefetches links in the viewport during idle time to make subsequent page navigations instant. The library automatically detects links that are likely to be clicked based on viewport visibility and prefetches their content using the browser's idle time. Quicklink respects user preferences including data saver mode, slow connections (2G), and reduced motion settings to avoid unnecessary network usage. It uses the Intersection Observer API to efficiently monitor which links are visible and prioritizes prefetching accordingly. The library is highly configurable, allowing developers to specify which URLs to prefetch, ignore certain patterns, set custom timeouts, and control prefetch priority. Quicklink can be implemented as a standalone script or integrated with modern frameworks and is particularly effective for content-heavy sites and blogs. The library is tiny (less than 1KB minified and gzipped) and improves perceived performance by reducing navigation delays.
